“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” – Acts 1:9
At age seventeen, I stumbled on a book titled “He Touched Me”. A remarkable story about Pastor Benny Hinn, who is a renowned world Evangelist and It revealed how much could happen when one person completely submits and become totally yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
I grew up in a Christian household, so I thought I knew all there was to know when it came to church and Christianity. But boy was I so wrong! After reading the autobiography, I felt so sober with the realization that I had been living a life of complete ignorance to who God is.
God doesn’t and has never cared about the term “Religion”, all he cares about is You! Yes You! He wants to be in an active relationship with you. That was why He sent His Spirit to us here on earth, so we could be of one Spirit with Him.
Who is the Holy Spirit?
The simplest answer to this question is that the Holy Spirit is Indeed God Himself. God is one, but has three personalities, Father, Son and Spirit. In the Old Testament, God came to us when He saved Israel from captivity, then He dwelt with us as the person of our Lord Jesus, and now during these times, He wants to live in us through the person of the Holy Spirit.
Today, we would be discussing the nature of the Holy Spirit. I’d like to share some of my knowledge of who He is, which could be helpful in order for you to understand Him better.
- The Holy Spirit is very Sensitive:
As earlier stated, The Holy Spirit is the very Spirit of God Himself so in other words; He is the Spirit of Purity and Righteousness. God gave us a command to live and lead a life of holiness if we identified with Him, because He is Holy (1 Peter 1:16).
By human standards, it is almost impossible to live according to God’s standards (Matthew 19:25). So God’s Spirit is needed in us to do that which ordinarily our flesh cannot do.
“… This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit’, says the Lord Almighty” (Zechariah 4:6)
The Holy Spirit is also very sensitive to sin and He grieves when Children of God continually engage in various sinful practices.
The Bible says:
“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of Redemption.” (Ephesians 4:30)
The Bible also warns that it is a very terrible thing to insult or blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is a huge sin in the sight of God. It is one regarded as an “eternal sin”
“So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven- except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven” (Matthew 12:31)
We live in a time where different opinions are given about the church. And most times, some of the words spoken against the church are borne out of ignorance.
In Matthew 12:32, Jesus gives a warning on how we speak about his church that is currently being run by the Holy Spirit;
“Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, either in this world or in the world to come. (Matthew 12:32)”
- The Holy Spirit is the Power of God who sets you free from Sin and Death:
Did you know the Holy Spirit is the power of the Gospel? (Romans 1:16). Now, some of you may ask, “I’ve heard the word “gospel” all the time, but what exactly is the Gospel?”
The Gospel is simply the testimony about Jesus. It testifies of His coming, His death, Resurrection and ascension to a place of honour in Heaven. It also testifies that only Jesus has the power to save, heal and deliver.
The Gospel is Jesus Himself! And only the Holy Spirit has the power to reveal Jesus to those who honestly seek to know Him.
“Because you belong to Him, the Power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death”. (Romans 8:2)
- The Holy Spirit Gives you a Spiritual Re-birth:
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
The book of John tells the story of a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi” he said, we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God.”
What do you mean? Exclaimed Nicodemus
“How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?”
Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, so don’t be surprised when I say you must be born again. The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it goes, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit. (John 3:1-8)
Only the Holy Spirit has the power to recreate you from the inside-out.
- The Holy Spirit wants to have a relationship with you:
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. (Revelation 3:20)
Only if you knew how much you are loved by the Lord. While we were all sinners, He gave Himself for us, so we could be reconciled back unto Him and have the relationship with us He’s been craving for.
Most of us are currently doing life still carrying burdens only He can lift. Jesus is the only one who can fill the emptiness you feel inside.
Has anyone ever told you your sins are forgiven? Yes! Every single one of them, no matter how numerous or filthy they may have been. You are not alone!
The bible says
“For all have sinned and fallen short of God’s Glorious standards. Yet God, in His Grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins.” (Romans 3:23-24)
Every form of sin results in death; this is living an eternity away from the presence of God. The bible calls it a place of outer darkness where there would be so much torment, weeping and gnashing of teeth. Man had already sinned and was destined for hell, until grace found and rescued us.
The bible says: “for God so loved the world, that he gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
No matter what anyone may have made you believe, I want you to know that everyone is loved by God and everyone can be saved as long as you call upon Him with all sincerity and humility.
“Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Roman 10:13)
Thanks again for taking the time to read through. Remember to leave a comment or share a personal knowledge of who the Holy Spirit is to you. I wish you an awesome week ahead. God bless
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:” (Acts 2:17)
Welcome to another beautiful day, its one the Lord has made and may we rejoice and be glad in it. I pray that the Lord’s protection and provision continue to be with you and your house even as we continue to soar above this Storm.
Soar? Yes! As Christians, it should be our core belief that no amount of darkness can dim the Light and Glory of our God. We also know that all things are working together for our good. So, let’s continue to keep our focus on Jesus, knowing that He would surely get us through this season.
Deuteronomy 31:6 says: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.
Here, Moses had been the Shepherd of God’s people Israel for forty years, and now it was time to pass the Leadership mantle to Joshua. But before doing that, Moses had to remind the people of Israel that God Almighty was their real Shepherd and Redeemer.
He also encouraged them to keep their trust in Him at all times regardless of how fierce the battles ahead may seem.
Today, Moses, Joshua and the Children of Israel who went into the promise land are long dead and gone. But the same God who promised to be with them at all times is still here and He’s words towards His Children has never changed. The Lord says “I Am with you! I would never leave you neither would I forsake You”.
Now the question is, do you have faith enough to believe His words towards you? Or you may even ask, what exactly is God’s word for me in this Season?
Peace (Matthew 8:23-27)
Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with His Disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
Jesus responded, “Why are you Afraid? You have so little faith!” Then He got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.
The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey Him!”
I’m sure most of us had been told the story of “how Jesus calmed the storm” times without number at Sunday school while growing up. well, I know I have! I also remember thinking to myself how lucky those disciples must have been, like these people were given front row seats to witness “weather bending” by the creator of weather Himself.
But, as fascinating as that story may be, there are some lessons the Lord would like us to learn from there:
First, Storms of life are very real and most times, you never see them coming:
The bible said:
“While they were moving across the lake, a fierce Storm suddenly appeared”.
It is safe to say that the storm caught them by surprise. Why? Well let me explain, Jesus had twelve disciples, and three of them (Peter, James and John) used to be professional fishermen before they were called by the Lord. By training and experience, they ought to have been able to decipher weather conditions right? But if they had known beforehand that a fierce storm would hit them while travelling, am sure they would have tried to talk Jesus out of going on that trip. But circumstances didn’t play that way, which was perfectly according to God’s plan.
God was planning to let them know that He, Jehovah Shalom was in their midst. Jesus told His disciples
“though you may go through many trials and tribulation in this world, in me you will have peace. So take courage, for I have overcome the world” (John 16:33)
There may be someone who is currently going through a storm that caught you off-guard and it seems like it’s never passing away, I want you to know that you do not stand alone; the storm didn’t catch God by surprise. He is surely coming to your rescue.
If you read through the bible, you would understand that God loves making grand entries. Wait on Him; He is coming to get you! Even if it means him walking on water to save you from drowning, He would surely come through.
The Prophet Isaiah puts it this way: “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
Second, Calmness in Chaos:
The bible said:
“suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping”.
Now, back in those days, having a ship wreck, was the biggest travel fright anybody could have. It’s safe to say it was something similar to experiencing a plane crash in our days.
But quick question;
What was Jesus doing? Why was He asleep, or did He just seem to be asleep? The bible said the waves were breaking into the boat. So, they all must have been drenched. How could anyone be asleep under such conditions?
God would like us to learn that though it looked like Jesus was asleep in the boat, He was very much aware of the storm. He wanted to let His disciples understand that God’s silence doesn’t mean God’s absence.
The arising of today’s global crisis has caused many to ask questions like “where is God in all of this?” But I want you to know that He is very much aware of this storm and in its due time, like every other storm, it shall pass.
Another person who caught the principle of being calm in chaos was a disciple of his. A man by the name Simon Peter. Acts 12: 1-8
About that time King Herod Agrippa began to persecute some believers in the church. He had the apostle James (John’s brother) killed with a sword. When Herod saw how much this pleased the Jewish people, he also arrested Peter. (This took place during the Passover celebration) then he imprisoned him, placing him under guard of four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring Peter out for public trial after the Passover.
But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him. The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate. Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, “Quick! Get up!” and the chains fell off his wrist. Then the angel told him, “Get dressed and put on your sandals.” And he did. “Now put on your coat and follow me,” the angel ordered
According to the text above, the followers of Jesus were hugely persecuted for their faith after His (Jesus) ascension to Heaven. King Herod had James killed and also put Peter, who was the leader of the church in jail, awaiting trial and possible execution.
If there was one thing Peter learned from Jesus with regards to response when in the midst of a storm or crisis, it’s definitely calmness. For as the bible says, he was peacefully asleep while awaiting his trial, before God intervened by sending an angel to his rescue.
In conclusion, we know that as long as we are temporal residents here on earth, we would certainly have moments where we feel like all hope is lost. Situations that might make us doubt our faith and probably God’s existence and Love for us. But through it all, let us understand that He is God and He is good and nothing would ever separate us from His love. There is no mountain too high, nor ocean too deep that would stop Him from getting to us when we need Him.
Just continue to dwell in His presence; He loves your company. You are the only thought that occupies His mind. Fall in love with Him over and over again and then watch Him Glorify Himself in you for the world to see.
Thanks for your time, feel free to leave a comment if this article blessed you. Remember to live a life that pleases Him. God bless.
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him”. (1 Corinthians 2:9)
“Therefore, if any an be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
Text: Galatians 2:20
No doubt, there are lot of things Apostle Paul wrote which are hard to understand. How can somebody be crucified and yet be alive? A crucified fellow is bound to die; but in Galatians 2:20, Paul says “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless i live”. What he is saying here is that ‘the man i used to be is dead: the fornicator is dead; the liar is dead; that man who used to be angry is dead; that man who used to defraud is dead; the man with the unforgiving spirit is dead; thank God, that man on the way to hell is dead; now i am going to heaven; i am a brand new creature’.
What message is Apostle Paul trying to convey when he says “I am crucified?” What really does He mean when He says “Christ is living in me” ? When we become born again, the Bible says we become brand new creatures in Jesus Christ. Quite a lot of things change when we become born again; all of them are inward things which later on reflects on the outside. Assuming you attend a church service and you become born again during the service, if you came you came in as a black fellow, you would still leave as a black fellow. after salvation, the colour of your skin does not change and you do not grow taller or shorter.
However, inwardly, certain things have changed. your spirit is now in communion with God. your spirit man which was once dead is now alive, but you are still living in the same body. The devil will try as much as possible to use that same body to drag you back to your old ways, but you must not give in. It is our Prayer that you do not backslide in Jesus’ Name. Now, it is your job to keep on renewing your mind and keep the cravings of your body under the control of your spirit. Yon need to keep reminding your mind and body that your flesh has been crucified. Apostle Paul writing in Galatians 5:24 said:
“And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
There are certain things that the body loves to do and it is eager to do them all the time. Many will claim that they are already Crucified with Christ, but their stomach is still their Lord. For instance, if a fasting period of seven days is declared, many people will be very sad. Why will they be sad? it is because almost immediately, their stomach will start rumbling in agitation. We have been given the power to silence the flesh, declaring by faith that it has been crucified, thus bringing it under and subjecting it to the dictates of the Spirit.
“The wicked flee when no man is pursuing; but the righteous is as bold as a Lion.” – Proverbs 28:1
Text: Daniel 6: 19-22
Once you are living a holy life, its going to be well with you. You will be able to abide under the shadow of the Almighty God. No harm will come near you because the Almighty God will cover you with His wings according to Psalm 91: 4-11. However, when you go into sin, you will be running when nobody is chasing you. Friends, you have nothing to fear except sin. if you do not live in sin, i can assure you that God will treat you as a loving father will treat His child. Isaiah 3:10 says:
“Say to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.”
However verse 11 of the same chapter says:
“Woe to the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.”
When you are living a life of holiness, you have angels as your bodyguard. They will go with you anywhere you go. They will see danger miles ahead and ward it off on your behalf. Your security is in the name of the Lord ( Proverbs 18:10).
If you are living a life of trust in God and holiness, you will stand and will not be afraid (Psalm 125:1-3). Nothing can move you. Nothing happens in life without God’s permission. You cannot even eat an Apple without God’s enablement. The devil cannot do anything unless God allows it. Only when He abandons you as a result of you refusing to repent of your sins can demons come near you. You can be assured therefore that your victory is sure because God is not going to allow the wicked to come near you, so that you will not be discouraged. in the story of Daniel, when he was thrown into the lion’s den, he made a statement worthy of note. He said:
“My God sent His angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for i have been found innocent in his sight. and i have not wronged you, Your Majesty.” – Daniel 6:22
Those who are living holy do not need to be afraid of anything or anybody that represents the devouring lions of this world. My prayer for you is that God will give you the ability to live in holiness and that your life will be full of testimonies of victory over all principalities, powers and rulers of the darkness of this world in Jesus’ Name.
Bible in one Year:
Colossians 1-4; Psalm 19:1-6
“And Samuel said unto him, The Lord has taken the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to your neighbour who is better than you.” – 1 Samuel 15:28
Text: 1 Samuel 16:1
One important thing we need to learn in today’s reading is that God always has a substitute. If God says he wants to use you, rejoice! However, be careful, because even as He is choosing you, He has already prepared a substitute.
1 Samuel 2: 27-30 tells us about Eli. God chose Eli and his family to serve Him. God later changed His plans because He only honours those who honour Him.
One thing about God’s rejection is that the devil takes the place of the resultant vacuum that is created. This was what happened to king Saul. We also have the case of Judas Iscariot in John 13:26-27. He was a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. The moment God rejected him, Satan entered him and he ended up hanging himself.
Psalm 75:6-7 tells us something interesting:
“For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: He puts down one and sets up another.”
Whenever God gives you an opportunity to serve Him, please humble yourself. It is better for God not to use you at all than to use you and push you aside, this gives room for the devil to come in. I pray that God would never substitute you with someone else.
In today’s reading, we see the rejection of king Saul and his replacement David. No one would have heard of David if king Saul had not lost his crown and position; just as nobody would have heard of Esther if Vashti had not lost her position. God has given us these examples so we can learn a lesson. God told Samuel to stop mourning over king Saul because He had already rejected him. He told Samuel to fill his horn with oil and go anoint one of the sons of Jesse as king. Samuel said Saul would kill him if he found out about His mission. This is an interesting statement because it showed that Saul had degenerated so badly that He could kill a servant of God. It is a terrible thing to backslide. This is why you Must never touch sin. We need to study the lives of people God rejected in the Bible so we can learn one or two lessons from their cases. We have to know what God saw in their lives to make Him reject them, so that we can run away from their mistakes.
Why was Esau rejected? The Bible tells us in Hebrews 12:15-17 that He was rejected because He could not control his appetite. I pray that your stomach would not send you to Hell. Some people have never fasted since they became Christians. I pray that your appetite would not put you into trouble at a point where God would reject you in Jesus’ Name.

“And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?’- 1 Peter 3:13
Text: Ephesians 6:16-17
Living a lifestyle that dwells in the presence of the Lord guarantees the banishment of fear forever. When troubles come, God will hide you in His inner room until the war or battle is over. You will become impregnable and you will find yourself always above your enemies. The Bible in Psalm 91:1 says:
“He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
God wants you to dwell within Him as a fortress. He wants to be your light and your salvation so that there will be nothing for you to fear day and night. If you are sure that the Lord is on your side, then it is sure that there is nothing to fear according to Psalm 118:6. However, how can you say the Lord is on your side if you are committing sin- adultery, fornication, stealing, idolatry etc?
You can sleep well at night if you live holy and there is nothing wizards and witches can do to you. you have to make sure you are wearing something hard on your feet if you want to trample on a poisonous serpent. If you bare feet to stamp on a serpent’s head, you may be hurt. in the same manner, you must make sure you wear the Lord as a garment, day and night, to be able to face the devil. if you delight in obeying the Lord, you will be eternally secure.
According to the bible reading today, the shield of Faith is necessary to protect us from the fiery darts of the wicked. Anybody who is fighting against the devil and casting out demons will have his name on the hit list of the enemy.
However, the enemies know that as long as you are living Holy, they cannot touch you. Moreover, the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God is another potent offensive weapon in spiritual warfare. The word of God can only be effective as an offensive weapon if you are a doer of it (James 1:22&25). Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego obeyed God entirely. They obeyed the commandment that they should serve no other god. They were in a foreign land where the King ordered them to disobey the word of God but they refused to obey the king’s order and they got into trouble. They were put into the fiery furnace but God brought them out alive. God said that we must pray ceaselessly and seek His face every time. Daniel obeyed this injunction. A decree was made against praying, but Daniel chose not to disobey God. He was put in the Lion’s den but God brought Him out alive. i decree that as you obey the word of God today, the fire and lions of life will not terminate your life in Jesus’ name. Good Morning!
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. – Ephesians 6:12
Text: Ephesians 6: 14-15
The instruction from our Lord that we should stand against the wiles of the devil connotes that we are already in conflict with the devil. we are already in battle and not probably in it. you may not know it, but the enemy is already fighting against you. If the devil is fighting against you, congratulations, if not, then there is something wrong somewhere. I hate the devil, and he hates me; i like it that way. we are commanded to fight and not to dodge the conflict. standing against the wiles is the opposite of running from the wiles. The Bible in 1 Timothy 6:12 says:
“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”
We are to fight and not run from this conflict. This must be clear in you mind. Ask God to give you the grace to put on the whole armour of God.
The first component of the armour of God is Truth. it is both a defensive and an offensive weapon. Righteousness is also a component of the armour of God. As a matter of fact, Jesus Christ is the Truth and He is our righteousness according to John 14:6 and Jeremiah 33:16. If you want to engage in casting out demons, you will have to know how to defend yourself using this knowledge. demons will hate you when you begin to cast them out , but that is inconsequential considering the source of the authority you are exercising. another component of the armour of God for our Spiritual warfare is the Gospel of Peace. Matthew 5:9 says:
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”
When you make peace with God in genuine repentance and you accept the remedy He has provided for sin, i.e, Jesus Christ, you become a favourite of God. can you fathom what that means? it means you become the apple of God’s eye. It is then and only then that the promise of Isaiah of 54:17 becomes your inheritance. Those who do not take the preaching of the gospel seriously do not know what they are missing. The reason is given by Paul an Apostle of Jesus Christ, when he said that the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those that are perishing but it is the power of God to those of us who have obtained salvation through it (1 Corinthians 1:18) .
In that name above every other name, you shall be victorious. Only be sure you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and live Holy in His name. Good Morning!
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” – Ephesians 6:11
Text: Ephesians 6:10-13
When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. this is the fact that there is a God. we cannot be talking about the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The Bible in Daniel 11:32b says,
“……but the people that know their God shall be strong and do exploits.”
Little wonder, Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ said in Philippians 3:10:
“That i may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto death;”
These scriptures show that knowing God is a weapon of spiritual warfare! when you know your maker, your battle is 90% won. From our Bible reading, we also realise that there is the armour of God. This armour is made up of several parts, otherwise we would not be told to put on the WHOLE armour of God. the constituents of this armour is listed for us in Ephesians 6:14-17. The armour of God is not built into us by default as children of God. It is external, and we have to pick it up in order to put it on. The reason many Children of God are defeated in the battle of life is because of their failure to fortify themselves with the armour God has made available to them.
From today’s memory verse, it is clear that there is a devil. The devil is alive and active. In Job 1:7, we read about the instability and unpredictability of his destination. This is one of his wiles. Through this corrupt wisdom, he gets people into trouble. The devil’s attacks are not always direct. They may not come from the direction that you expect. A good example is found in Joshua 7:1&12. Joshua had been victorious all the time; Jericho had just been taken and Joshua was beginning to feel confident. Then the enemy came from behind. He entered one man who stole what God had warned them not to take. Joshua thought God was still with him so he went against a small town called AI. The Israelite had to flee from this small town. The enemy had used a new method. It was an indirect attack. Another classical example of an indirect attack of the devil is found in Samuel 18:5-9. David did nothing wrong, but the devil used wiles. He got women together and taught them a song: “Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands”. This turned Saul against David.
I pray for you that the devil’s wiles against you will be exposed and defeated in Jesus’ Name. However, you must put on the whole armour of God. Good Morning!
“Look! I stand at the door and d knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my father on His throne. Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” – Revelation 4:20-22
The ultimate goal of all genuine Christians is to make Heaven at last. The essence of Jesus coming to die for humankind was to open the door of Heaven that had been shot against us. He opened this door that we may have access to eternal bliss in Heaven.
In Luke 19:10, Jesus said:
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Nevertheless, only those that overcome would have the power to make it to Heaven. The question then is: “What are we to overcome?” First, we must overcome all the evil thoughts and imaginations of our heart. The Bible in Proverbs 23:26 says,
“My sons, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.”
When we allow Jesus to come into our wicked hearts, He gives us victory over evil thoughts that defiles us, and that has made us candidates for hell fire. The reason why Jesus needs to come into our hearts is that the heart of man is desperately wicked according to Jeremiah 17:9
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
What exactly is in the heart of man that caused the Bible to declare it as desperately wicked? Jesus is Mark 7:21-23 reveals this to us. He Said:
“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornication, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”
Only those who overcome these ills will get the power to enter into heavenly bliss. This is the reason why we all need Jesus Christ who overcame sin and who possesses the power to live above it. The power that overcomes sin is the power we need to make heaven. Jesus is ready to give you this power if you are willing to forsake Satan, sin and all forms of wickedness. Therefore you must make conscious effort to do away with all appearance of evil like Joseph did while in Potiphar’s house (Genesis 39:12). I pray for you that the days of your struggle with sin are over today in Jesus name. The power to “go and sin no more” as was given by Jesus to the woman caught in the act of adultery (John 8:11) shall be yours today in Jesus name.
Father, I am tired of being a victim of sin; please empower me with strength in my inner man to manifest the reality of the truth that I am dead to sin in Jesus’ Name.
“For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.” (Matthew 7:29)
Besides providing an avenue for you to report everything that threatens your peace and joy, prayer brings the fullness of the Spirit. We see this demonstrated in Acts 4:31
“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness”.
The Holy Spirit is ever near to those who call upon God in truth, while He is distant from those who call upon Him In pretence or who hardly pray. In James 4:8, we are enjoined to draw near to God. How? One way to do this is by praying. When you pray, you provoke the Holy Spirit to come closer to help you. If you fail to pray, you keep Him at bay. If you pray intensely and effectively enough, He will descend upon you and even those around you. In Acts 2:1-4, one hundred and twenty believers were together praying in the upper room when the Holy Spirit descended during the feast of Pentecost and they were all baptised with the Holy Spirit. In Acts 4: 23-33, in the face of serious threats from the authorities, the church council members prayed and where filled with the Holy Spirit. If you can pray, the Holy Spirit will come to fill the space within you and you will be full of the Spirit. You can be filled with the Holy Spirit as often as you require Him to fill you. If you are always full of the Spirit, you will be empowered to live the life of the Spirit.
Prayer also brings boldness to declare God’s word. There is a link connecting these variables: Prayer, The Word and Boldness. If you tarry in the place of prayer, when you declare the word, it will be done with authority. This was one of the feature that was commonly seen in the ministry of Jesus Christ (Matthew 7: 28-29). How do you teach or preach today? If it is plastic, powerless and void of the backing of the Spirit, you are teaching like the scribes and not like Jesus. Prayer makes the difference in the ministry of the word. The one who preaches or teaches with conviction has obviously paid the price in the place of prayer. How prayerful are you? How impactful are you? If you are still shy to preach salvation to sinners, it is most likely you are not praying enough. Pray without ceasing!
